Organization

The Master Gardeners of Greater Kansas Metropolis (MGGKC) is a chapter of the University of Missouri Extension Master Gardener Program (UMXMG). The chapter shall be governed past the UMXMG Policies and Procedures and shall represent the interests of the University of Missouri Extension. The UMXMG Policies and Procedures supersede MGGKC Policies and Procedures.  The designated Extension Chapter Coordinator, located in the Extension Urban West Region that is comprised of Jackson, Clay, and Platte Counties, volition guide the affiliate.

The MGGKC chapter is led by an Advisory Lath equanimous of Officers and Standing Committee Chairs. The Informational Board is responsible for the management of the affiliate and delegates responsibility for twenty-four hour period-to-24-hour interval operations to the Officers and Committees.

Continuing Committees currently support numerous Community projects throughout the Kansas City area and provide a gardening Hotline at multiple locations, Speakers Bureau, and educational training to the public via a Bound Seminar, Avant-garde Preparation sessions, and bimonthly Gardeners' Gatherings. Fundraising projects include a Plant Sale and Garden Bout.

Membership consists of the following categories:

  1. Extension Chief Gardener Trainee is an private accepted in the EMG Cadre Course and is currently attending classroom training sessions.
  2. Extension Master Gardener Intern is an private who has completed the EMG Core Course and is in the procedure of completing the starting time year volunteer requirements.
  3. Certified Extension Main Gardener is an individual who has completed both the core course and the first year volunteer requirements.
  4. Active Extension Main Gardener is one who has completed their annual (including the first year) volunteer service hour requirements or more than on approved projects plus their required Standing Education hours in the MGGKC defined yearly timeframe.
  5. An Extension Master Gardener who has been an Active EMG for a full of ten years will be granted Emeritus Extension  Principal Gardener  status by the Board and the Extension Chapter Coordinator. This includes the certification year.
  6. Advanced Extension Master Gardener is an EMG who has obtained Advanced Training Certification.
  7. Inactive Extension Master Gardener is one who has non completed their annual volunteer hour requirement on approved projects and/or not completed their required Continuing Teaching hours every bit defined in the MGGKC Policies and Procedures and is non classified equally an Emeritus EMG. To become an Agile Extension Master Gardener once again, the individual must contact the Extension Affiliate Coordinator and then complete the almanac volunteer service hour requirement and Continuing Didactics 60 minutes requirement in the current year. An inactive member with no reported volunteer activity after 2 years volition be "closed". This does not include Emeritus members.
  8. Uncertified Extension Main Gardener is ane who may no longer apply the EMG title or participate in EMG programs and activities. A Certified EMG may be uncertified according to the UMXMG Policies and Procedures if the atmospheric condition under the volunteer understanding are not fulfilled or thru Disciplinary action.
  9. An Extension Master Gardener who has requested of the Extension Chapter Coordinator (kickoff and end date) a temporary intermission of their volunteer service hour requirement will be identified as an Extension Main Gardener on Leave of Absence .

Membership requirements are as follows:

  1. All Extension Master Gardeners including Emeritus must sign the MU Almanac Volunteer Agreement (aka 'Lawmaking of Conduct') annually to be eligible to volunteer on Extension Master Gardener projects and activities and to be covered by MU liability insurance.
  2. In addition to the basic training as described in the State Policies and Procedures, Extension Master Gardener Interns will be required to consummate during their training or in the year post-obit their grooming a minimum number of hours of volunteer service on affiliate projects equally defined in the MGGKC Policies and Procedures in society to become certified as Extension Chief Gardeners.
  3. Each Active Extension Master Gardener, in order to maintain active condition, shall participate each yr in a minimum number of hours of volunteer service on chapter projects and Standing Education equally defined in the MGGKC Policies and Procedures. EMGs are encouraged to participate in service opportunities beyond the required hours in directly back up of the affiliate. All service hours shall be reported annually.
  4. At that place shall exist no annual volunteer service requirement or Standing Pedagogy requirement for Emeritus Extension Master Gardeners. Yet, Emeritus EMGs are encouraged to proceed to participate in Extension Master Gardener programs and to study their service hours annually. Emeritus EMGs shall receive all benefits of membership in the chapter.
  5. Any revision to the almanac volunteer service requirements must meet or exceed the annual volunteer service requirements in the Land Policies and Procedures.
  6. Extension Chief Gardeners working with youth under the age of 18 where youths are the main focus of the program must undergo a background check as required past Missouri Division of Social Services and the University of Missouri Extension.
